Reluctantly my
prized GTZ is up for sale. I am currently living in Japan and my stay
has extended beyond what I originally planned, so for the last one and a
half years she has been sitting in the garage at my parents house.
The car has traveled less than 3000km in 18 months. I
have decided it is time to sell the car and possibly all the stereo gear,
and the sweat and tears that went into installing it!
I am the only NZ owner, auction inspection sheets, and the owners manual are all available. The car had 89,000 k's when I bought it, and is now on 115,000. A lot of the k's have been clocked up on long runs, I travelled to Invercargill most weekends for 9 months @ 450k's return. One of my mates is a mechanic so he does all the work on the car for me, therefore nothing gets ignored. He has just replaced the CV boots, and a few months ago he replaced the lower arms on the front suspension - something you have to watch out for ALL Levins with Super Strut Suspension, that cost me a grand! So if anything has gone wrong I've always had it fixed properly. Oil has ALWAYS been changed at 5000 k's and a genuine Toyota filter replaced at 10,000k's. The GTZ with the 4AGZE is completely different to the 20 valve models, power starts from about 1500 revs, you can cruise round town in 3rd gear, and it pulls away easily from under 1000rpm, on the open road you don't need to change down for hills or to pass, just bury it in 5th and you're off. The car has a Limited Slip Diff, which you have to have in the supercharged version! The Supercharged motor is much stronger compared to the 20 valves. The pistons, crank and con rods are all forged, and the pistons are ceramic coated with oil squirters under them to keep the temp down. GTZ's have a stronger gearbox than the 20 valves which is geared higher. 100kph in 5th = just over 3000rpm, 120 = 3250, whereas the 20 valve is spinning at about 3250 at 100kph. 3rd gear is good for 150k's, and she winds off the speedo very easily in 4th. The best thing about the supercharger is that it is controlled by an electronic clutch, and only switches on when needed, so cruising at 120k it is not on, and fuel usage is the same as a normal 1600. You can cruise at 150kph on the flat and the supercharger isn't even on! I have been on some pretty fast long trips and you still get 30 - 40 mpg. I used to get from Dunedin to Invercargill and back, plus a week driving around town on one tank - 530k's! The audio system has all been installed by me and I got 3rd place at the South Island champs in CHCH in 2001. The head unit is a brand new Kenwood KDC-PS9016R ($1500) and I am reluctant to sell it, but money talks :) The 3 way Boston front speakers are worth $2000 which I wish to keep. I'll leave the Infinity Kappa rear speakers in for free (worth $250.) I spend weeks working on the subwoofers!! (And months on the whole system!!) Fibreglass moulds hold the subs in place of the rear armrests, and I spent many hours rebuilding the trim panels, flat with the grille. I have kept all the original parts and bought second hand ones for the audio work. Subs are JBL Gti 8 inches, one of the best 8" subs you can buy, RRP is $799 each. They sound great with tight clean bass, and best of all take up no room! I would leave the subs in for an extra $1000. Amps are Alpine, a F400 powers all the front speakers - 4x40w RMS, and the 3552 powers the subs - 4x40 also, bridges well to make heaps of power. Amps will stay for $750 ono. These prices are flexible and if it's the difference between selling the car and not, I'm sure we will come to an agreement. Plus all the power, speaker and RCA cables will stay to complete the deal. The sound is great, very tight and clean. It can play as loud as you like, with no distortion. The bass is right in the cabin with you, due to the subs being so close to the front. This helps bring the soundstage forward. The alarm is a Mongoose, with remote central locking, that never falses - worth $400. I will also leave the MOMO
Race steering wheel in the car. The car has
always been well looked after. You don't have to rev the motor high
to get all the power, change at about 5500rpm, hook another gear and she
keeps on PULLING! Not like a 20 valve that needs 7000 - 8000 to get
going, therefore longer lasting with less wear and tear. We can negotiate the price if you wish to keep any or all of the stereo gear. If anyone is interested in buying all the
stereo fibreglass pods, and amplifier mounts etc, let me know, I will be
looking to sell these if the car sells without audio. So if you are really interested and have the cash, send me an e-mail. The car is located near Dunedin, but it's no problem to have it bought to Dunedin or Christchurch if you are serious. Updated: 25 Jan 2003 - Feel
